First lawsuit against GM dismissed

Posted under automotive defects

The first lawsuit against General Motors in regards to an ignition switch defect has been dismissed due to fraudulent testimonies given by the plaintiff and his wife. The automobile company is facing hundreds of lawsuits after individuals claimed that their delay in recalling vehicles led to injuries and even deaths from accidents caused by the defect. Leading the first round of cases against General Motors are attorneys Robert Hilliard, Steve Berman and Elizabeth Cabraser, who chose this case to be the first tried against the motor company.

The plaintiffs in the first case, Robert Scheuer and his wife, saw their lawsuit dismissed after it was revealed that Schueur submitted a fraudulent check as evidence and overstated the injuries he received from the accident involving the defective switch. Despite this dismissal, the lawyers are expected to take on another five cases against GM, with one beginning in March.
