Fatal trench collapse at makeshift construction site

Posted under Wrongful death

In Waterville, Wisconsin, local officials are calling a home construction site’s trench collapse a tragic accident. The collapse occurred in mid-September, and claimed the lives of 56-year-old John Uncer, and 2-year-old Macin David Olson Finstuen, according to a local WEAU report.

Reports say that the trench had been dug earlier that day. Uncer had climbed down into the trench to check a pipe line laid there, and Finstuen – a neighborhood family friend’s step-son – was also put in the trench while his step-father went to find a shovel. The trench, according to reports, then collapsed around Uncer and Finstuen, burying them and taking their lives.

OSHA will be conducting an investigation of the site, according to Uncer’s family.
