A 1-year-old girl died after a vehicle crashed into the wheelchair in which she was placed on East Washington Avenue last Thursday morning.
Investigators were told that a 31-year-old mother put her daughter on a wheelchair as a stroller going to a grocery. The accident occurred when they were on their way home and the mother left the wheelchair unattended to look for a baby bottle that she had apparently dropped. A van driven by a 53-year old driver who is said not have been impaired suddenly crashed into the wheelchair. The driver of the van said he heard a noise indicating he may have hit something and claimed not to have seen the wheelchair.
The toddler was pronounced dead in the hospital.
The unexpected loss of a loved one is always difficult and painful to deal with, and our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of the toddler who lost her life.
