36 year old Carolyn Black, a resident of Columbia, SC, was injured late on Saturday night after her car was struck by a drunk driver. According to police, Alexi Edis Bertotty had a BAC of .13 at the time of the accident – nearly twice the legal limit. Although Black is in relatively good health now, her niece, who was also in her car at the time of the accident, remains in intensive care. Black says she would like to see stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws in her state.
She may get her wish. Beginning this week, her county’s highway patrol will begin running a series of public service announcements to remind people of the dangers of driving under the influence. Hopefully this well help reduce the frequency of this thoughtless and dangerous crime.
