J.C. Penney has recalled Cooks Deep Fryers due to a faulty heating element that has the potential of causing the item to over-heat which can cause a fire and burn hazard for consumers.
The recall covers 27,000 deep fryers that were sold since August of 2007 in J.C. Penney’s catalog, stores, and via the website. The retailer says they are aware of 5 incidents involving the deep fryers. There has so far been one report of a minor burn and three reports of damaged counter tops.
The deep fryers were sold for roughly $50 and feature a brushed stainless steel exterior, a wire mesh basket with a handle, and a lid with a window and black handles. The deep fryer has a 1/3-gallon capacity.
