Amish Bicyclist Killed in Crash with Automobile

Posted under Uncategorized

As we all know, the Amish culture is one that does not allow for modern technologies, and that includes transportation.  Unfortunately, as we’ve also seen, riding a bicycle on rural roads can be dangerous, and that notion was tragically reinforced recently when a man was killed in Shawano County, Wisconsin after a collision with an automobile, according to a Michigan newspaper based where the victim lived.

“Chester Coblentz, 18, of Clare was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shawano County coroner. The second cyclist, Dennis Beechy, 19, of Trenton, Mo. was transported to Shawano Community Hospital, then airlifted to another hospital.

The accident occurred about 5:50 a.m. A 2001 Monte Carlo, driven by Todd Giese, 25, of Shawano, collided with the cyclists while traveling northbound on Wisconsin 22 near Shady Road in the town of Washington, reported the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department.

Both men were in town for Beechy’s wedding.”
