Wisconsin bans driving without insurance

by Administrator 1. June 2010 08:55

A new state law was passed today in Wisconsin that requires all Wisconsin drivers to carry proof of auto insurance whenever driving.  Law enforcement officials will be routinely asking for proof of insurance in addition to a driver's license during traffic stops.  Prior to today, June 1, 2010, Wisconsin was one of only two states in the country that did not legally require all drivers to have auto insurance.

Having an auto insurance policy is an exercise of personal responsibility in the community.  One fender bender, let alone an injury claim, can make years worth of auto insurance payments worthwhile.  Even though it could cost you big bucks if you are caught without auto insurance, police are not allowed to pull over vehicles for the sole purpose of checking the driver's insurance.  If you are pulled over for another traffic violation and you have insurance but no proof, you will have to pay a $10 violation fee and you might have to go to court to prove it to a judge.  If you are caught lying to an officer about having auto insurance, the penalty can be upwards of five thousand dollars.  Before the law was enacted today, 85 percent of Wisconsin residents had auto insurance.

Tips to avoid accidents in snowy conditions

by Administrator 16. February 2010 05:58

Almost every state across America received heavy snowfall last week. These snowy conditions not only shut down a number of businesses but also caused a number of car accidents.

In such snowy conditions, drivers should take certain precautions. First, before driving, they should make sure to wipe off the snow and ice on any windshields or windows. This will allow drivers to achieve maximum visibility.

On the road, drivers should turn on their headlights. This added light on the road will help other drivers notice their vehicles on the roads.

If you or anyone you know has been injured in a car accident caused by snowy conditions, contact the Madison car accident attorneys of Habush, Habush, & Rottier, S.C., at 800-242-2874.

How to prevent secondary crashes

by Administrator 16. February 2010 05:48

Secondary crashes are classified as car accidents that occur at the same location as a previous car accident before the previous accident is cleared. According to some studies, secondary accidents may account for as much as 10% of car accidents.

The easiest way to prevent secondary crashes is to clean up the first accident as quickly as possible. However, secondary crashes are not the only consideration following an initial accident. Officers must also collect evidence, which often requires delaying the cleanup of an accident.

One way for drivers to reduce the likelihood of secondary crashes is to drive slowly near accident scenes. Such cautious driving will allow drivers to be aware of any unmarked hazards that may lead to a secondary accident.
