Bicycles with crash risk recalled

Posted under Product Liability

Approximately 1.3 million bicycles in the U.S. are being recalled by 13 companies due to crash risks caused by a faulty front wheel component, according to an announcement made on September 29.

Reports said the recall affects various models of bicycles with quick release (QR) levers that may became loose and contact the disc brake in the front wheel while the bicycle is in motion. The problem may lead to sudden stalling or the front wheel may detach, causing injuries to bicycle owners. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is aware of three incidents related to this issue, only one of which resulted in a man sustaining several injuries. Bicycle owners are advised to check their bikes and visit the CPSC website for the list of companies affected by the recall.
