The Barron County Sheriff’s Department recently identified the woman who was injured in a April 25 accident in the town of Sumner as Julie Schmitz.

According to official reports, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Highway 8 near Highway M. 53-year-old Schmitz was driving when a piece of metal struck her after going through her windshield. The metal was found to have come from a westbound semi truck on Highway 8. The piece of metal struck Schmitz, caused her to go off the road. Authorities responding to the scene found Schmitz in serious conditions due to head injuries from the piece of metal.

Barron County officials are still looking for a lead to locate the semi truck from which the metal piece came.
