According to a new report that was released by State Farm Insurance, deer-vehicle accidents are far too common in the state of Wisconsin. The study indicates that licensed drivers in Wisconsin are at an elevated risk of being involved in these potentially fatal collisions.
Claims data was used to determine the states’ rankings in regards to these accidents. The data revealed that West Virginia was the state with the highest risk of these accidents, and that Wisconsin ranked seventh for the second year in a row. The numbers show that drivers have a one in 79 chance of striking a deer while driving on roadways in Wisconsin.
Last year, the odds of hitting a deer with a motor vehicle in Wisconsin were one in 88. Within one year’s time, those odds have increased. It is estimated that each year in Wisconsin, 18,000 deer-vehicle collisions take place.
