A Minnesota man and his son were seriously injured in a
Madison aviation accident Monday.
According to officials with the Dane County Sheriff’s
Department, the man and his son were in a 1950s plane that took off from Matson
Airport in Stoughton. The plane crashed shortly after 9:30 a.m. in a grassy
area in the middle of some woods a short time after taking off from the
According to Dane County sheriff’s spokeswoman Elise
Schaffer, the 14 year-old boy was transported by a Flight for Life helicopter to
the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. The 51 year-old man was
transported by ground ambulance to the same hospital.
The father and son had visited the Experimental Aircraft
Association convention in Oshkosh and spent the night with relatives near
Schaffer said the two were on their way back to southwestern
Minnesota when they went down.
