The U.S. Department of Transportation recently released a report on fatal car accidents in the country occurring between 2004 and 2008. According to statistics, 58 percent of fatal car accidents occurring in the four year period were single-vehicle accidents. 35 percent of fatal car accidents were two-vehicle accidents and only 6 percent were multi-vehicle accidents.
In addition, contrary to popular belief, more than 80 percent of fatal accidents occurred on dry roads and 66 percent of single-vehicle accidents were on straight roads.
