$17.3M Settlement in Malpractice Case

Posted on Thursday, April 30th, 2009 at 4:58 am

In a medical malpractice case led by Dan Rottier, the family of a young girl was awarded $17.3 million, the largest sum in Dane County history. The case concerned a surgery the girl underwent in 2007.

The girl was undergoing a spleenectomy when her doctor caused terrible damage. Using a tool he had never used before, the doctor cut several major blood vessels and severed part of the girl's bowel, causing irreversable brain damage. The girl is now wheelchair bound, fed through a tube and unable to speak.
