How to Survive a Truck Accident

Getting into a car accident is serious. Injuries are increased with the speed and type of vehicles involved the accident. On the highway, cars travel at least twice the speed then they do in town, and there are an increasingly large number of commercial vehicles travelling on the highways. Accidents involving commercial vehicles are usually more serious. The two most common accidents involving eighteen wheelers are fuel fires and rollovers.

Fuel Fires

Fuel fires do not automatically happen when a truck gets in an accident, even when the fuel line is punctured. In fact, even though the fuel is warm, it is very difficult to light diesel on fire. Most fires are caused by spare batteries in the cab that become crushed, creating a hot spark that can cause the whole truck to light on fire. Ten percent of all fatalities in truck accidents happen because of fuel fires.

Rollovers

Rollovers are too common on our highways. And the biggest problem involving rollovers is the structural integrity of the truck’s cab. The trucks cab is similar to most vehicles, and in a roll over flattens easily. This prevents the drivers from getting out and they are often times killed. However, the construction is not yet changed, so there is one option for truckers to prevent death, which is to jump out of the cab before the truck rolls.
